Israel was once one of the world's oldest civilizations, and today it is a small modern country.  The ancient Hebrews first lived in Israel during ancient times, and they were later called Jews.  The purpose of this unit is to gain an understanding of Judaism, the Jewish culture, and the history of Israel. 

Essential Questions:

  • How did ancient Israel develop as a civilization?
  • How did historical events affect the movement of the Jewish people over time?
  • What lasting impact has Jewish culture and history made on modern day western civilization?
